Using Building Knowledge To Outsmart The Fire

Brian Enterline

Every fire starts small, and every building is equipped to burn with ferocity.  It is our job as aggressive firemen to stop the extension of fire thus protecting lives and property.

In this class we are going to take aggressive firefighters to an entirely new level of understanding about building construction and fire spread.  We will build on what every true fireman should already know, buildings are built to burn and our job is to stop the fire.  Fire spread in concealed voids, walls, attics, and other spaces is always discussed in firefighting classes, yet we still manage to make the 6 o’clock news when the fire takes control of the building.

We will look at and have interactive discussions about construction, fire spread, and aggressive firefights with the use of videos and photographs.   You will be equipped with knowledge so you are better prepared to make aggressive firefighting decisions to stop the spread of fire. We will also rip the training wheels off the “Firefighter I Book” and look at some outside the box ways to deal with many scenarios that occur when a building decides to not cooperate with the firefight.
